He started his career in research and developed a unique non-intrusive monitoring system to assess the health of rotating equipment
which was made commercial and applied to power utilities plant and upstream oil and gas production facilities. This was followed by
several years in the engineering design of new plant and plant enhancements for production facilities in large engineering and
construction companies. Engineering roles covered feasibility, concept development, front-end and detailed design in both engineering and
project management capacities.
In an operating company John fulfilled several roles in support of production operations including leading several successful fast track
projects from concept evaluation to operation and had accountability for operating projects budget and execution. He has worked in
facilities engineering, field construction and commissioning, maintenance, project management and operations to gain a broad understanding
of production operations.
His change management and organization analysis skills were applied successfully in the Gulf of Mexico where one operating asset
reduced its operating costs by 30% and increased uptime 7% and achieving a significant safety performance record. This transformation
took place in a period of 8 months including planning and organization wide change. Lessons taken from this radical transformation were
captured in a structured assessment process and change management suite of tools. Multiple operations have been assessed across the globe
and cross industries to build a significant portfolio of operations where gaps were identified and value delivered.
In his last role as Operating Technologies Director, he led the development of real time operations management and support systems
that tap into multiple and disparate systems ranging from enterprise management systems to process control systems. The data is translated
into useful decision making information required to manage and improve efficiency in operating assets and in capital project developments.
